The night air was cool…
The candles flickered in the colored glass holders…
Five women and one man…
Sat around the patio table…
Eating ceviche and chicken tacos…
Drinking margaritas…
And discussing what happiness is.
“So you’re saying you’re happy” one woman asked me.
“Yes,” I answered.
“I don’t believe anyone is really happy,” she pressed.
“If my sister says she’s happy, then she’s happy,” my sister piped in.
The other two woman admitted they too were happy.
The unhappy woman looked at us as if we had found the Holy Grail…
And she hadn’t a clue how we got it.
“Happiness is inside,” I said.
“But how do you know when you’ve got happiness?”
“It resonates. It’s like an energy.”
The other three happy women agreed and went on to explain how their happiness felt.
My sister’s husband kept mum
I wasn’t sure if he “got” what we were talking about…
Or just enjoyed watching us women talk.
The conversation eventually shifted to current events…
Then silly talk took over
And we laughed till our bellies hurt.
Eventually it was time to leave.
On the way home…
I ruminated about happiness. Why was I so happy?
Especially since I received yet another rejection.
But it’s OK. I figure that this agent just wasn’t into my story…
And I need to send out more to find the one who is.
And that’s when it dawned on me…
Happiness is perspective
A way of seeing that your situation could always be worse
And having hope that it will get better.
But I felt like there was more.
And that's when a song I used to sing as a kid
From the Broadway musical, South Pacific  popped into my head
Titled, “Happy Talk”  sung by the character, Bloody Mary.
Happy talk, keep talking happy talk,
Talk about things you'd like to do,
You gotta have a dream, if you don't have a dream,
How you gonna have a dream come true?
Yes! That's it!
I have a dream!
And I know it's gonna come true!
And until it does
I'm gonna keep talking "happy talk."
To all who read my blog…
Are you happy?
And if so, how do you find happiness?

Always, Em-Musing

Ironic that Happy Talk is sung by the character called Bloody Mary! But then again it does make perfect sense. Happiness is a state of mind. I strive for contentment, as I'm not always happy. A peaceful state of mind is happy to me.

Cute post:)

I don't know that I always have happiness but I do always have joy. My joy comes knowing that despite my circumstances I am blessed!
