IT''S THE BEST WEATHER/IT'S THE WORST OF WEATHER

Guess it’s not just the Midwest…
That gets dreary weather.
Yesterday, I was reading a NY agent’s blog…
And he wrote about the weather in NYC.
Guess it was rainy and chilly.
It affected this agent so much…
That it made him think of the worst book he’d ever read.
And speaking of weather…
I once read that it’s not a good thing…
To start your first chapter talking about the weather.
I don’t, but in reality…
Weather really does affect me…
Like this time of year
Even though it's only autumn
I feel the cold bite of winter looming.
Some of my friends however, love this time of year…
And when I complain about it…
They tell me to make a pot of chili.
Besides getting gassy…
I don’t know what eating beans will do.
But continuing on about the weather…
If it wasn’t for weather…
What would many people talk about…
When they really have nothing else to talk about?
Hmm?
Maybe the same can be said about writing then…
When writers really have nothing to write about…
They write about the weather.
Sometimes though…
A story really does have to start with the weather
Like when I’ve got my grandkids
Cuddled next to me on the couch…
And their waiting to hear yet another ghost story
If I start with…
“It was a beautiful sunny day on the beach”…
It just doesn't set the stage and have the same impact as…
“It was a dark and stormy night.”
So?
Does weather affect you? Your writing?

Always, Em-Musing

Yes, the weather effects me! I never really understood why people like to be cold. I agree with you, give me a warm sunny day over a cold dreary one. Besides, its unnatural to bundle your self up with sweaters, coats, gloves, bulky socks, heavy boot shoes, a hat, scarf, and gloves! I am not a writer but if I was I wouldn't be able to type if my hands were numb from the cold.

I don't really ever write about the weather...in fact, one criticism that has been leveled at my writing is I don't stop to describe the surroundings enough. I need to work on that!

Well, I'm loving these cool FL mornings so I've been waking up earlier and writing on my lanai. I guess the weather affects my motivation, but not the writing itself. :)

The weather kind of affected me yesterday too. It was that bone-chilling cold rain. BLEH.
I usually like to write when it's rainy but we've had too much so it just made me tired. LOL

Yes, weather affects me and my writing. I tend to write for longer periods when it's cloudy and gray, and I love the feeling of being inside, safe and cozy.
