WEIGHTING

I’m back from my working vacation in Akumal, Mexico.
Ha!
Little did I know the working part…
Wasn’t going to be me working on my spiritual retreat.
Oh, sure, I met with the architect…
Went over the plans…
And yada, yada, yada.
But the real working part…
Was me…
Working on me.
Seems when there’s a huge life transition…
Such as the recent death of a spouse of 36 years…
(we were separated for four years, but still close)
It’s amazing how much baggage you accumulate.
Funny…when I packed…
I was worried about the physical weight limit of my luggage…
And making sure I was 40 pounds or less (Spirit’s new limit).
Too bad there’s no emotional weight limit…
On how much sorrow you are allowed to carry in life…
But then, how would one even begin to measure it?
And what does 40 pounds of regret look like?
Or too bad there are no restrictions…
On which emotions you’re allowed to carry with you.
What would 3 ounces of liquid ire look like?
I did have a restful, meaningful, joyful time while in Mexico…
And after working through and sorting out my baggage…
I definitely was lighter on the flight home.
How do you handle baggage?

Always, Em-Musing

So much to think about here, Em. I'm glad you were able to lose some of that 'baggage' on the trip. Hopefully, we'll see you back at coffee soon. I've missed you.

What a great metaphor. Glad you were able to shed some of that baggage--I think some of the accumulation is an inevitable part of life, but being able to lighten your burden? That's always a gift. Welcome back!

Welcome back, it sounds like the vacation was worthwhile on so many levels. It's interesting what we can leave, and take, from a little bit of time away.

Wow, really? 36 years? I guess you did need to let some stuff go while you were in Mexico.

I'm glad you're back though. I've missed you.

As for my baggage, I got rid of that 2 years ago when I let the Monster Child's father go back to where he came from. It's all good now.

And hey, I read my crazy horoscope for this month, I'm supposed to get a new contract, a new lover, and a boatload of cash. It's June 1 so you can remind me at the end of the month why I don't believe in reading my horoscope anymore.

Wow! Contract, lover or cash? Hmm? If you could choose only one of the above...which one would you choose?

Wow, what a trip! And what a creative way to express your experience--half poetry, half prose, all musing.

I'm not good with baggage. That's all I can say. I try to travel light, figuratively and literally.

Sorry to hear you're going through a rough time, but getting away can always be good for the soul. Just take it one day at a time, and do the best you can.

I'm looking to shed 20 pounds of muffin top, which could be what stress looks like. Joy is weightless--and it's nice when the weights are lifted off you, eh? Sorry to hear about your ex.
