JUMPING PENMANSHIP

I long for simpler electronic days…
Like when I was a kid…
Home electronics consisted of a TV with 3 channels …
With rabbit ears that wiggled to get a clear picture…
Or transistor radios you turned in your hand for reception.
Who would ever dream that everyday…
I’d sit in front of an electronic machine…
That has software running without me doing anything…
With things like Alerts, Messages, and Updates
Popping up all the time wanting me to do something.
I don’t want to think about all of that…
I just want to write.
I guess I could resort to pen and tablet…
But unfortunately I’ve lost the ability to write…
Legibly that is.
I now can type my thoughts faster…
Than my poor hand can keep up with.
Guess I’ve gone from cursive to Qwerty.
And I seems schools are doing the same.
Forty-one states aren’t teaching kids cursive anymore.
What are you thoughts on that?
Is your child learning cursive?
I can hear my grandkids telling their kids one day…
“In the olden days, we used to have to write with something called a pen.”
Hmm? Wonder what else due to technology…
Will get lost along the way?

Always, Em-Musing

I don't know; I think this is part of human evolution. I don't really lament not having to write extensively with pen and paper because I'm left-handed and always had smears of ink halfway up my arm and miserable grades in handwriting. I'm thankful my little girl, who is also left-handed, probably won't have to go through that. I think we probably are losing something--I wonder about fine motor development and how that's linked up with other aspects of development. But at the same time, there are a lot of benefits to typing vs. handwriting!

They're not teaching cursive in NC and it's the one thing my daughter wants to learn how to do. I remember the nuns beating our knuckles with rulers if we didn't get our curlies right.

The art of beautiful penmanship is dead. I used to write letters with my calligraphy pen and then I'd get a reply in email. Where's the fun in that?

I'm not sure if they are not teaching cursive writing in my area but I do know I will never want to see the pen go away! Hopefully it will stay along with art brushes. Physical writing is as unique to our personality as our voice and gives personality to our documents, greeting cards, etc...Long live the pen!! :)

Along with that, my sister took somekind of humanities class and they said that we are losing touch with each other. Where's the good customer service? The clerks are ruder than they used to be at once.

Have you seen Wall*E by Disney? I think it could be that way. Everyone scurrying everywhere on little motorcarts talking to their neighbors on screen phones. *sigh*

Scurrying around on phones...sounds like me, my daughters, and granddaughters. I DON'T like it.

They were teaching cursive in the primary school. But they never make them use it. :(

I'm actually of thinking of getting that software where you don't even write. You just speak into your computer and it'll type for you. I guess I'm following the techno wave. LOL
