STUCKY NOTE

As I sit here in beautiful, tropical Akumal, Mexico…
I realize…
I'm exactly where I've always wanted to be...
Though I haven't always known where “where” was…
I just knew there'd be palm trees and a jungle..
But I hadn’t actually heard of Akumal…
Till last year…
And now it seems as if this destination…
Is asking me, “What took you so long?”
Ah, good question.
Many years ago my parents yanked me from New York…
And stuck me in the Midwest…
And I remained there because of…
Obligation.
Though it was a sweet obligation...
Raising my two daughters.
Then about ten years ago…
I went on a Caribbean cruise…
I thought I’d died and gone to heaven.
Especially my sinuses…
They opened up, and I took in volumes oxygen…
I felt giddy!  I felt alive! I--
Didn’t want to leave.
And my eyes begged to continue to see the beauty…
For the rest of their/my life.
And now, at this time of my life…
My eyes, my sinuses, but mostly my spirit…
Are asking me this question…
What is keeping me...
From living my dream in paradise now?
Fear?
Guilt?
And really, my writing career…
Such as it is… is portable…
I’m portable.
Before I leave this planet…
I must be true to myself—to my spirit…
Though it won’t be quite a cinch…
There are those who can’t understand…
My need to find happiness on my terms…
And they wield guilt…
Like a vampire slayer plunging a stake in my heart.
So?
To you my fellow writers…
Or anyone reading this blog...
I ask you…
Are you where you want to be?
Or are you stuck? And if so, by what?
And how long will you wait…
To be where you really want to be?

Always, Em-Musing

I'm technically where I want/need to be. I'm happy with my life...but I wouldn't mind a visit to the Caribbean (or anywhere warm, really).....

I'm stuck :( In a recession with a mortgage weighing me down ... You should go. If you can, just do it. Seriously.

I'm not stuck - just procrastinating, as usual... Hang on, whats the difference??

I'm not sure that I'm where I want to be. I'm not sure that I'm meant to be in any one place. I know that I want to see so much more than I've seen.

I love where I am. It's NJ but it is a beach resort. :-)

I met a woman at Nationals who lives in the Bahamas and teaches and writes there. She absolutely loves it.

I'm not exactly where I want to be, but I am getting there. Still, it's not really a place as much as a state of being...

I've stayed here in the Midwest to raise my children near family, and it's been wonderful. Now, with only one child still left at home, and him getting ready to head off in his own direction in a year and a half, I can hear the West Coast calling my name louder than ever!

Yep stuck but have time and with a little luck and perseverance will get unstuck one day.

Hi! Its nice and bright here. they say if you paint a guest room yellow your guests wont stay long. I disagree. I like the way you write. Its exact, precise. Here's to being free! stuck is never a good place to be.

I don't feel stuck. I used to--but I changed my perspective a little and it made a difference. I also decided to do something I was afraid to--write--and that changed everything!
