GOT MILK? THEN PLEASE DON'T!

What is it about lactating white women…
When they come to a paradise like Akumal…
They turn into "Earth" mothers?
Don’t get me wrong…
I’m not opposed to breast feeding in public…
(Or white women. Obviously, I’m one)
But a little modesty please.
The local Mexican and Maya women...
Cover themselves.
Yeah, we all know what’s going on under the covering…
But there are no dripping nipples in anyone’s face…
Except for the toddler’s that is…
That’s right, toddler. Like the one I saw yesterday…
Sitting upright...
With his legs wrapped around his mother's waist...
Tapping the overflowing mommy fountain.
And if exposed nipples weren't annoying enough...
These women strut with smug looks on their faces…
As if they're saying, "Look at meeeeeee!"
What do you women want?
An atta girl for showing your breasties?
And husbands…
Buck up and tell your women to cover up…
There’s a whole restaurant full of people…
Who can’t stop staring long enough…
To finish their meal till the toddler finishes his meal.
And now I wish I'd ordered scrambled eggs...
Instead of sunny side up!
Plus, I've got better things to do...
Than see grown men drool in their frijoles.
"La cuenta, por favor. Por FAVOR!"
So?
What's your take on this topic?
C’mon, give it a squeeze.

Always, Em-Musing

Having breastfed all my babies, my take is exactly that: Cover it up! And by all means, breastfeed a baby but not a child.

I had a shawl with me everywhere I went. And even then, I always took myself off to a different room or area so that no one could see me.

I don't know how women can breast feed past the first tooth. That's when I stopped. Nothing like a little nipple nick to get baby to a bottle.

And hey, no harm no foul on the comment issue. I asked. You answered. It's all good. And you weren't that harsh. There was worse.

Cover! For heaven's sake, I don't want boobage in my face! Not while I'm eating, shopping, sitting in church...no where!

The attitudes of the ones who bare it all make me think they are ONLY doing it to...bare it all. I don't like folks like that. Breast feeding ain't all that...cover it up and don't subject me.

Great story, I breast fed (many years ago of course) Never Ever in public IDk call me old fashioned, but I considered it a private matter. Now, I had one with colic and allergic to formula's that I had to keep on the breast for 8 months. One day at the store he just took it out on his own. Ppl looked at me as if my pants had fallen off and did not like that at all. Because of the teething which was another issue, I had been screaming at my doc to help me find something for him, he was put on soy.

Interesting topic, especially in at changes in latitudes. It's a little sad to me that the media chose to sensationalize something that is natural and should be beautiful.

"Hey, girls that's what they are there for."

Unfortunately, modesty is just another victim to progressive modern thinking. Hey who needs that anyway(the progressive modern thinking) I breast fed my babies, to a full year privately and publicly, and to my knowledge I never offended anyone.

I breastfed my babies until they were in their 2s and 3s, but I always covered up. Breastfeeding is very healthy for little ones . . .and especialy if you have kids with multiple food intolerances and allergies like mine. It also helps prevent breast cancer for the moms. However, I've never understood the non-cover up stance . . .yes, breastfeeding is best, but flaunting our bodies isn't. And there are so many options for covering up - special made covers, silk scarves (I found a huge one on sale that wasn't see through), baby blankets, etc.

I have to admit that's something I don't want to see in public.

I have to say I agree Em. Great point about peoples who have never gone over to bottle feeding still cover themselves.

It seems to be part of the ever growing culture rudeness that boasts "I'll do whatever the heck I want to, and I don't care what anyone thinks".

The latest in exhibitionism. It's even on the cover of Time.

As a man I know I'm unqualified for this discussion, but I'll never forget the woman that was literally shoving her breast into a baby's face trying to get it to eat. Nipple all over the place. A little uncomfortable for me, but I restrained myself from a second peek. New follower

I agree with you. My husband and I met a couple one time before we were married & woman was breatfeeding her toddler. She could have gone into another room. It was distracting ... to say the least. Sure, it's natural, but ... yeah, I really don't want to see. Husband didn't either.

Yay for breastfeeding! But I don't want to "see" it.
And please, if the baby can say "boobie" give him/her a sippy cup. :-)
Have you seen the Time magazine cover?

I think that little boy will obviously be a breast man. :-)

I believe breastfeeding should be done in private. It involves one of a woman's most private parts, one most woman wouldn't dream of flaunting in public under any other circumstance.

I feel like that too. There's a place and time for everything. And that isn't it.

I think there is no reason why women shouldn't breastfeed babies in public but that there is also no reason not to be discrete about it.

I am all for breastfeeding and I did it with all of my kids (with dignity-I hope). I agree, cover up. We don't need to see your nipples while trying to eat lunch or dinner. I used to think I was in the minority on this, but maybe not: When the kid is old enough to eat with his own teeth or old enough to walk up and say, "Yo, mom, I am hungry , could you pop it out." He is old enough to be weened from the breast and eating real food. No offense intended to anyone who disagrees. Just my opinion.
