SEASON OF THINKING

They say it’s better to give than receive..
Me? I’m reconsidering.
With Christmas soon approaching…
This doesn’t just mean I have to shop…
It means I have to do more thinking
And I have enough to think about already.
If I ask my daughters what they want for Christmas…
They always say…
“Oh, it doesn’t matter. Anything is fine.”
Really?
You may want to change that answer…
Because there’s a sale on BBs at Cabela’s…
Or shoe expanders at Overstock.com.
JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT!
Kids, on the other hand…
Always know what they want…
Plus they have Santa to tell their choices to…
And all moms and dads have to do is take notes.
Easy peasy.
Grownups, on the other hand…
Always make my brain scramble…
Because I have to come up with something…
I didn’t give them last year…
Something I can afford….
And something they will really appreciate.
I think there should be a Cyber Santa…
Where adults can go and sit on Cyber Santa’s lap…
And there they can tell him what they want…
Then all we gift givers have to do is…
Check their list.
Think of it like a Santa Registry.
Then all we'd have to do is choose, buy, wrap, and give.
Easy peasy.
So…
Other than sitting there watching with anticipation…
While the gift you’ve given is being opened…
And watching the recipient break out in a big smile…
What about gift giving…
Do you think is better than receiving?

Always, Em-Musing.

I agree--my adult family and I have run into this problem, and we've solved it this year by agreeing we will each pick a charity and donate in each other's names in lieu of gifts. I think it was a relief for all of us.

Adults are hard to buy for! I know if I want something, I just go get it. Guess that's why giving is better than receiving for me.

On Amazon, I think they have a tool they call "the wish list". Perhaps you can get your daughters to wander around Amazon and pick some stuff. Then all you have to do is pick one and wah-lah, done shopping.

If that doesn't work, chocolate is always good.

My husband never gives me any ideas. He's so tough to buy for.

Give them one random christmas and you'll get a mailed written list next year.

I'm really lucky to have a daughter who is against material things --really! She would be upset if I got her anything that cost very much, and she's been that way since she was about 12. (She certainly didn't get it from me!)

I love giving. Even so, it seems there's always one adult each year who I have no idea what to buy for. Bad sentence...sorry. But my shopping is all done now. I'm so happy. But I still have wrapping to do.

I love when someone new comes to Christmas for the first time. Maybe a your son/daughter's boyfriend or girlfriend upping their relationship one step. You know they're coming. You buy an extra gift for them. They don't expect anything. They are sitting quietly as the gifts are handed out. Then someone hands them a package with their name on it. They're stunned. Their face lights up. It's magical.

Great posting! This year I am just doing the gift card thing and giving the Gifts In A Jar.

HA! Yes, kids are definitely easier. Those lists are easier to work from than guessing. My husband is TERRIBLE to shop for--he never likes anything, but he's put out with gift cards because 'you didn't put any thought into it'... so yeah... I'm not a huge fan of shopping either.

Definitely better giving. I never know what I want...and generally don't want anything, LOL!
