DASHING PEOPLE

It’s the Monthly Blog Hop for the Insecure Writers Support Group founded by Alex J. Cavanaugh

The first Wednesday of every month, an optional question is announced that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience, or even a story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post. Let’s rock the neurotic writing world! Remember, this question is optional.

The awesome co-hosts for the August 6 posting of the IWSG arRonel Janse van Vuuren, Natalie Aguirre, Sarah - The Faux Fountain Pen, and Olga Godim!

August 6 question - What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry?

Don’t know much about the publishing industry as a whole...

So, I’ll only respond to one publishing layer—Vanity Presses.

I’ve seen many ads for them in emails...

They look attractive...

And promise to make you $$$$$ in book sales...

It's like Dating Sites...

(which I only did once years ago. Swear.)

Where you'll see maybe a match...

They look good...

In fact....

They just might be perfect for you...

And so you give it a go...

But in reality...

They’ve got bad breath, stinky pits and make you pay for dinner.

They lied to you...

An innocent, unsuspecting hopeful.

But at least with a bad date...

It's only a one-time encounter...

And you're only out the cost of dinner.

But with Vanity Presses...

You’re out a hellava lot more money...

Lots of money!

Also...

You've lost time...

Time waiting for your book to make it big...

Hoping there'll be enough profit to offset your upfront money...

And have some extra.

Then comes the disappointment...

Of realizing you were made a fool...

And your book is going nowhere.
I think dashing someone’s hopes and dreams...
And making them pay for it...
Is mean and rotten...

Let them rot in HELL!

What say you?

Always,
