MINDING OUR BUSINESS

Are you a writer?
Me too.
And aren’t we writers always stressing…
About the stresses of writing?
But I believe our angst about being a writer…
Is more than just putting words down…
With pen or pixel…
I believe it’s because we…
Like the characters we create…
Are not one-dimensional…
There’s more to who we are…
Than being just a writer.
We're also storytellers…
Who think up plots and create worlds …
That never existed before.
And I can tell you that not everyone…
Was born with the gift of storytelling…
As I’ve had the unfortunate experience…
Of sitting next to many bores at a party.
And also within us…
Is another dimensional aspect…
That not everyone can claim…
It’s that illusive little muse…
Who lives in our thoughts…
And comes up with all our great ideas.
And makes an entrance at will…
Just never our will…
And we’re always left wondering…
When in the hell will he/she show up?
So to the writer dimension of you…
Let me now ask…
While there are books, workshops,
Conferences, critique groups, and editors…
For you to master your craft…
Who or what is there…
For you, the storyteller?
For your muse?
Where do you go…
Or what do you do…
To stoke those fires?
And I guess if I could put yet another spin…
On this topic…
I’d say that we, writers…
Have learned to integrate...
Our body, mind, and spirit…
That would make any new-ager envious.
The body being – the writer…
The mind being – the storyteller…
And the spirit being – the muse.
So tell me…
Do you see yourself as three-dimensional?
Or maybe even multi-dimensional?
And how do you honor…
Those other aspects of all that it takes…
To be a writer?

TRIBES

Four women…
Having brunch at the Omni hotel….
Watching the crystal blue Caribbean…
Lap on the white sandy beach.
I was in heaven…
Of course the beautiful terrain helped…
But more important that day…
I found my tribe…
Four writers!
Here in Mexico!
Not that I can’t write alone, mind you…
But I find the company of other writers…
Inspires me.
Recently I watched Midnight in Paris
A Woody Allen movie…
About a writer who goes to Paris…
And at midnight…
A vintage car picks him up…
And whisks him off to cafes and bars…
Where he meets Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald…
Picasso, T.S Elliot, Dali, and Gertrude Stein to name a few.
Imagine?
What that would be like…
To sip coffee or a brew with any of them?
For now and for me…
Since I can’t be with my tribe in Ohio…
I’ll find friendship, inspiration, and accountability…
Here in the Caribbean…
With my new tribe.
So what about you?
Do you have a tribe?
And if you could pick one author in history…
To sit across from in Paris…
Who would it be?
FYI…
One of the members of my tribe is…
Elle Cosimano…
A newly published author of Nearly Gone
A YA thriller.
Here’s the link to her website:

DUH!!!

I’ve been absent for a while…
But haven’t been sitting on my duff.
I’m writing, editing, and submitting.
Today…
An excerpt of mine…
Is being critiqued by three lovely ladies...
On the Princess Persnickety blog...
Three Hundred Word Thursday.
Here’s the link:
Hope you stop by.
And feel free to critique also.
Ciao for now.
Or as they say down here in Mexico...
Adios muchachos.

LUNAR SANDING

5 a.m.
I just got home…
From a private beach on a bay.
I’d been there since midnight…
With my feet in the Caribbean…
The waves lapping at my ankles…
The white sand in front of me…
Coconut palm trees lining the beach…
Their fronds swaying to the warm Trade Winds…
And a canopy of stars overhead…
Punctuated by the lunar eclipse…

All I can say is…
I am humbled.
This earth…
This universe…
Are magnificent.
I am grateful…
For being alive...
And being here.
So?
Did you see the lunar eclipse?

Always,

Em-Musing
P.S. Awww. the photo didn't come through...
and I'm too tired right now to fuss with it.
