Hey! It’s the monthly blog hop/ known as the Insecure Writers Support Group founded by Alex J. Cavanaugh. You’re invited to join if you're a writer, insecure, or just supportive of writers. It happens the first Wednesday of each month, and it would be sweet of you to visit at least a dozen or so new blogs and leave a comment. Your words are appreciated. Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG. Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!
The awesome co-hosts for the April 6 posting of the IWSG are Joylene Nowell Butler, Jemima Pett, Patricia Josephine, Louise - Fundy Blue, and Kim Lajevardi!
April 6 question - Have any of your books been made into audiobooks?
If so, what was the main challenge producing it?
No, I haven't had my book made into an audiobook...
But I have written and voiced hundreds of scripts...
For TV, Radio, & other formats...
And being in studios doing voiceovers...
I know there's a whole lot going on...
That most people have no idea about.
Some friends have told me...
"Em, you should do an audiobook of your novel.
Umm...
No thanks.
While I love doing voiceovers...
I'm never satisfied...
And besides...
I love writing more.
And yes...I'm never satisfied with my writing...
But when I make a mistake..
It's cheaper to make a change
Then making changes in a $tudio.
However...
I'd love to hear authors' experiences...
In producing their audiobook.
How long did it take?
How many voice talents were used?
Were you one of the voices?
And price?
(if you care to share)
Always,
Em-Musing

Maybe one day you might share one of your recordings with us? That would be special. Thanks for co-hosting, Karen. Happy IWSG day.
Wow, envy you. I have always been interested in writing scripts.
That's cool you've done a lot of audio work.
I went through ACX and basically posted what I was willing to pay for my novella's audiobook. I had auditions to listen to after that - and some were terrible, but some were good and then I had to make a decision. Did I make the right decision? I'm not sure. I decided to try the process and find out. Smart? IDK. It's out there now.
I would like to try to do my own at some point, but I'm not sure if I can get a space in my house quiet enough. I do a podcast for my church and sometimes, well, the cat and dog, and family members make some unexpected voice-overs and I have to redo it.
Have fun writing!
ACX is what we also use and we choose the royalty-share program so it costs no money up front.
So interesting that you do voice overs.
It's fun to learn about other skills folks have. My voice is too squeaky for anything recorded!
I agree. Much cheaper to make a writing mistake. hehehe

Doing voiceovers sounds really interesting! I still don't know if I could listen to an audiobook of my stories... I'd be too embarrassed!
I think what you said about studio work is true of many jobs, Karen. People don't understand what goes into a job until they do it. It sounds like yours would be a challenging and fun career, even if it involves a lot of work. I'm a long way from considering an audiobook. I have to finish a book first. Happy creating in April!
My eighth novel will release in July (fingers crossed), but I have no audiobooks. People always ask; I always say, "Maybe one day." I'm in no hurry to go there.
I imagine your audio experience makes you more qualified than most of us!
That's so neat that you've written and voiced so many scripts! I've been reading books on scriptwriting. I thought it might be fun to try writing a screenplay for my book. I don't know if it will ever go anywhere, but you never know until you try.
That sounds like a very interesting career you have. I too would like to try my hand at script work one day.
