HA HA HARD WORD

Ouch!
I've been smacked with a guilt trip…
And I don’t know why I should feel so guilty.
You see…
I employ a cleaning lady once a week…
So why should I feel guilty that she’s working hard…
While I’m sitting in my office chair laughing?
Do I need to explain that I am a writer…
And part of being a writer…
Is thinking…
And often I laugh at what I’m thinking.
But she looks at me like I’m a slacker.
Hey!
I’m a writer! This is what writers do, OK?
And yes…
Reading other’s blogs and sometimes laughing…
Is working…
It’s called social networking…
A necessity in this business of writing.
And though at times my eyes are closed…
I am not dozing…
I am imagining. That can be hard work.
And OK, OK, OK…
Playing Candy Crush Saga is not working/writing…
I say to her in my head, squinting my eyes…
While hiding my iPhone as she walks by me.
But playing games clears my mind…
So more creative thoughts can enter in.
Jheeze!
Even I don’t know believe that ruse.
But really…
Though my fingers aren’t on my keyboard typing…
I am thinking. Creating. Plotting.
So tell me…
Ever feel guilty that while you're having fun...
During the creative process of writing…
Others have to trudge the drudge?

Always, Em-Musing

Funny, I use the drudgery of housework to create. However, I would give it up for a maid. lol

But I do have to say, when I'm in the middle of something important, no matter where I am I talk to myself. supermarket, gas station, bank. People think I'm nuts. Because usually I'm running dialogue.

No guilt here! And guitar playing is double work, because I'm practicing and thinking of writing at the same time. Trust me, that's work.

Like Anne, I use a bit of housework to clear my mind and get my body moving. After an hour of that, I come back to my desk and I'm ready to write.

Also, I've got nothing against hiring your own cleaning lady, but the cleaning services around here in suburbia are ridiculous. Their fliers have this infamous image (that we've mocked before) of a blonde haired, blue eyed family sitting at a table smiling while a brown woman is in the background on her hands and knees cleaning. The caption says, "Come on, isn't life too short to clean your own house?"

As a half brown guy, half of me laughs, and the other half dies inside, just a little.

never had to hire a cleaning lady. With the way my house is I'd have to hire the whole firm.

Wrap your guilt up and take it to the beach. That way neither you nor the cleaning lady has to see what the other is doing.

I spent my time on both sides of that fence. A dollar earned is a dollar earned(Isn't that profound or maybe it's profanity). Don't hate the boss, and don't hate me when it's my turn to be the boss. Just keep the checks coming.

LOL! I just had the same experience, except it was my 12 yr old son who gave me the stink eye--while he works out Algebra equations and writes AP English papers, here I sit giggling away. Writers are awesome.
