OSCAR SLAM!

Just when I was going to watch the Oscars…
The worst headache in decades…
Descended upon me…
And with it came waves of doubt like…
What am I doing here in Mexico...
Starting a new venture at my age?
Will I ever be published, or what?
Jheeze!
What’s all this about?
I then went to bed.
Finally, this morning at 3:30
When my head felt like it was going to explode…
I got up…
Had coffee…
Put hot compresses on my neck…
Sat at my computer…
And plunked out another submission.
Thankfully, my headache is abating…
And so are my doubts.
So?
What was this all about?
Are emotions attached to headaches?
Of course, tension headaches are…
But I don’t feel tense, at least consciously.
And thinking back, I can’t say which came first…
The doubt or the headache.
Have you ever experienced…
A physical attachment to doubt and insecurity?
If so, what did you do to get rid of it?
And did you watch the Oscars?

Always, Em-Musing
P.S. And if you think Angelina Jolie is waaay too skinny, stick out your leg.

She is scary skinny.

Didn't watch the Oscars. I was exhausted and went to bed early.

Sorry about the headache. When I get stressed, I usually have breathing and sleeping problems. Fun stuff.

No Oscars here. Had to get up at 3:30 to get my mother to the airport for 5am. Fun stuff.

Angelina has always reminded me of a spider.

As for headaches, oh yeah. Even back to getting migraines again, which I haven't had since high school. Stress manifests itself in different ways. And sometimes you don't even realize you're stressed. It's all internal.

And truthfully, who cares why you're in Mexico. It's warm, it's beautiful, it's an adventure I dare say none of us would do. You're a woman after my own heart.

Sorry about your headache! And yes, I've been going so hard preparing for my book's release that I was sick this weekend. Feeling better now though!

Yeah, my stress headaches happen when I refuse to acknowledge that I'm being stressed. Glad to hear that you're better. :-)

I didn't watch. I never do any more, because I never watch enough movies for it to be worth it.

I've done that too--woken up in the middle of the night to send out a new query. Nothing beats the querying blues than sending more out into the void!

It's sort of a which came first kind of question, isn't it? Did the headache cause the stress or did the underlying stress bring on the headache? It happens to me as well.

I had a $62 ticket to the Oscars and the cable went out. Talk about a headache. Doubt and insecurity. Ha - I laugh at doubt and insecurity.

Before I was agented, I definitely experienced a sense of relief every time I sent out a submission.

Now my stomach churns every time something is going to my agent or an editor, lol.

Glad you're feeling better!

Nope, I don't do the Oscars. The acceptance speeches are just too plain awkward!!! Hope your head feels better today! :)

I think just thinking about the Oscars can give anyone a headache. The choices for movies that make it there, and the winners, are often mootable, and migrainingly frustrating. This year the only awards I agreed on were "Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role" - Meryl Streep, and "Best Original Screenplay" - Woody Allen. Billy Crystal assed some life to this year's event. The last few years, the Academy Awards were, to say the least, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz boring.
