HIPPY HOPPA

Aw…
I was just trying to be coy last Friday…
When I posted about falling in love.
Obviously, I’m not good at coy or metaphors…
Or putting photos on my blog.
It took me forever to get these photos up...
And today's post was supposed to be yesterdays.
Anyway, with that being said...
Sorry if I led many to believe…
It was a person I hoped to fall in love with…
Actually, it was Merida…
A 1542 colonial city in Mexico…
And oh yes, I did fall in love.
I stayed at Casa del Balam…
Right in the heart of the historical section…

Surrounded by centuries old cathedrals…
Like the Cathedral of San IIdlefonso…
Second oldest cathedral in the Americas.

I was in awe…
Because other than rocks and dirt…
The pews there are the oldest thing I’ve ever sat on.

But for me the story is tainted…
Because it’s made of bricks from Mayan temples…
That the Spanish demolished.
I toured the city by horse drawn carriage...
Went to several museums...
Like this Museo de Antropologia.

And...

Tah tah tah TAH!
I bought a new hat!
An original jipijapa hat…
(pronouced Hippy Hoppa)
A.k.a. Panama hat.
In the Yucatan, they're made by Mayan women in cenote caves…
Because the high humidity...
Allows the hat to be woven very tight...
And even after it's been crumpled...
It will keep it's shape.
Wish humidity would do the same for me.
So?
Other than earth...
What's the oldest thing you ever sat on?
Or...
Are you better at metaphors than I am?

Always, Em-Musing

Oh I love the pictures. I think I could fall in love with this place too...especially that gorgeous sky. Okay...now I'm jealous.

Great photos! I knew you didn't mean a person. And I'm not even good at reading between the lines.

I knew you meant a place. Beautiful photos, especially the outdoor tables. I try not to sit on old things. LOL
