This whole week…
I’m surrounded by my possessions…
That I’m either giving or throwing away…
And keeping only some things that are essential...
To start my new life in Mexico.
I’ve been trying to be philosophical about the process…
At first it felt like my life was being reduced…
Because according to one definition…
Reduce means…
The amount by which something is lessened…
So it could be said…
That the "some" of my life has gotten less.
But in cooking…
The definition of reduce means…
The intensifying of flavor by boiling liquid away.
So it could be said…
That the "some" of my life has intensified…
By reducing it to only the essential possessions.
So?
What do you think?
Is the some…
Less or more?
And what is the some of your life?
Always, Em-Musing

Ah I went through this when I moved to Greece and pretty much simmered my possessions down to a couple of suitcases and boxes ... but ... in the last ten years I seem to have accumulated more than I had then ... I guess the need to HAVE things doesn't go away completely no matter how much you want it to! And yes, I think your latter theory is much nicer :o)
As someone packing up moving from Chicago to Denver in the next week and doing exactly this, I can absolutely relate.
Oh I'm so jealous. Mexico sounds exotic, warm, and filled with sunshine.
Less is definitely better! Especially when it comes to the amount of crap we haul around.
To me, the best part of moving house is being forced to get rid of lots of possessions. Yes, less is best!
I'm definitely of the less variety! I've moved so many times to different countries I've become a little too good at tossing things!
I definitely fall into the less is more category - I have no problem throwing something out if I haven't had a need for it in awhile.
As for you... It sounds like your life is definitely of the cooking reduction variety; enriching the flavor your life by boiling away the excess. Very bold!
