PERMISSION SLIPS

I love a good excuse…
Oh, not an excuse to try and weasel out of something.
No, what I’m talking about is permission…
Being given permission to do something…
Or giving yourself permission to do something.
Like when you’re sick…
No one will question you...
If you stay in bed and watch TV or just sleep all day…
Especially if there’s a bucket by your bed.
Or take blizzards for instance…
They give you permission to stay home and play.
Yesterday…
I got permission from my Spanish tutor…
To watch cartoons.
“You should watch The Simpson’s," she said...
“and Dora the Explorer.”
Hmm? Was she hinting that I’m slow?
“The vocabulary is simple, easy to grasp.
And the characters talk slow.”
Ah! Slow. As in talking slower…
And yes, If I’m going to learn to speak Spanish…
I need to hear people habla mas despacio.
But the most important permission I ever got…
Was from the King, as in Stephen…
"If you don't have time to read
you don't have time (or the tools) to write.
Simple as that." - Stephen King
Can’t argue with that logic.
But sometimes…
When I kick back with a book…
It still feels like a guilty pleasure...
LIke I should be up doing something physical.
What part of me can't enjoy the pleasure without the guilt?
What about you?
Do you ever feel guilty reading?
And what percent do you read versus write?

Always, Em-Musing

I don't feel guilty kicking back with anything!
Reading and writing are about equal right now.

In the book "The Secret" it talks about "The Law of Attraction." Basically, it's giving yourself permission to be worthy of things.

I agree that no one should feel guilty for reading or writing. You can set priorities and have time for lots of things.
I'm familiar with the book, The Secret. It's contains a valuable philosophy.

At the current moment, reading is exceeding writing, but that will change in a couple weeks when I dive into my 2nd draft. :)

I would bet Homer Simpsons talks very slow. I wonder how Bumblebee Man talks in the Spanish version

I used to feel guilty about reading, until I changed my inner record to repeat that ALL READING IS STUDY. Now I'm completely (mostly) guilt free while kicking back. I find reading while using the elliptical also takes some of the guilt off. And hey, you can always pull out a book in Spanish, eh? ;)
