Y is for YOUNG, GORDON

PULP FICTION late 1800s – mid 1950s

The A-Z Challenge is Y-ding down and finding a subject for “Y” was a challenge itself but I did it.

Gordon Young (1886–1948) was an American writer of adventure and western stories. He was born in Ray County, Missouri and worked as a cowboy. When he moved to Los Angles he took a job at the LA Times in 1914 and eventually became Literary Editor. Sinclair Lewis was one of his correspondents.

He began writing fiction for the magazine Adventure in 1917.

Young's humorous Westerns about "Red" Clark, became his most commercially successful series.

Adventure was an American pulp magazine that was first published in November 1910 It went on to become one of the most profitable and critically acclaimed of all the American pulp magazines

Always,
Em-Musing

My dad just loved these kinds of books when he was a kid. He would love reading about this.

Very cool. I haven't seen any of these around. Great digging!

I certainly have been enjoying this series of pulp writers, although I haven't read every single one (I'm immersed in a rewrite at present.) I've bookmarked it, though, because I would like to go back and look up some of these writers and read them to see what made them so appealing. Thanks for opening a door to what promise to be some fascinating reads.
