This post is part of the monthly blog hop/therapy session known as the Insecure Writers Support Group, founded by the one and only, Alex J. Cavanaugh. If you're a writer, insecure, or just supportive of writers—insecure or not—please join us. It happens the first Wednesday of each month.
It would be sweet of you to visit at least a dozen or so new blogs and leave a comment. Your words will be appreciated.

OPTIONAL IWSG Day Question: Whose perspective do you like to write from best, the hero (protagonist) or the villain (antagonist)? And why?

First...
MEA CULPA!  DISCULPE ME!  ME SO SORRY!
For missing last month’s first Wednesday post.
Why?
A gastritis attack!

Thinking it might be a heart attack...
I finally went to the emergency room that night.
Thankfully it wasn’t my heart...
More like extreme heartburn.
The next day my doctor diagnosed it as gastritis.
Who knew it would keep me down for a week!?
Only able to tolerate crackers, water, and Ensure
(thank God for Ensure)
I’m 100% better now but did lose five pounds.
(I do not recommend this method for losing weight)
Now—on with this month’s question:
Whose perspective do I like to write from best?
I guess it depends on the character.
I have to admit...
I like getting into the head of an antagonist...
Even though sometimes it’s scary.
And I’ve wondered sometimes...
How I could even get into my creepy character’s derainged mind?
But that’s part of being a writer, no?
On the other hand/manuscript...
My Humorous Women’s series...
Is written in first person
So all action and characters...
Are known only through her thoughts and experiences...
So telling her perspective is the only choice.
On an aside...
I was reading recently about “unreliable narrators”
I find this perspective of storytelling fascinating.
Don’t know if I’ll ever do this...
But it is interesting nontheless.
So?
Ever use an “unreliable narrator” in any of your stories?
And whose perspective do you like to write from?

Always,Em-Musing

Sorry about the gastritis! Doesn't sound like fun.
I've never been brave enough to attempt an unreliable narrator.

Oh, what a terrible way to lose weight.

The unreliable narrator could give you a chance to mask a villain as a hero.

Hi, Leigh! Kudos to you for finally going to the emergency room, and thank goodness you weren't having a heart attack. You have my complete sympathy! I've been through a similar experience, and next time I'll get to the emergency room sooner, if only for the painkilling solution the nurse gave me to drink. I had to Google "unreliable narrator" because I wasn't familiar with the term. I've probably heard it sometime in my looong past and simply forgotten it. Now that seems like an interesting perspective! Enjoy IWSG Day!

The gastritis sounds awful. Glad you got through it. I've never tried an unreliable narrator...I'd even forgotten it exists. Thanks for refreshing my memory!

Sorry about the gastritis attack. How scary while thought it was a heart attack. But even with the reassurance it wasn't, it doesn't sound like any picnic. Hope you are better now. As for your question: I have never tried to write a story through the p.o.v. of an unreliable narrator, but it sounds intriguing. I haven't tried writing through the viewpoint of an antagonist, either. For some reason, that idea doesn't grab me. But the unreliable narrator is tempting.
