WORD UP

Hey! It’s the Monthly Blog Hop for the Insecure Writers Support Group founded by Alex J. Cavanaugh

The first Wednesday of every month, we announce an optional question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience, or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!
Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

The awesome co-hosts for the  July 3 posting of the IWSG are JS Pailly, Rebecca Douglass, Pat Garcia, Louise-Fundy Blue, and Natalie Aguirre!

July 3 question - What are your favorite writing processing (e.g. Word, Scrivener, yWriter, Dabble), writing apps, software, and tools? Why do you recommend them? And which one is your all-time favorite that you cannot live without and use daily or at least whenever you write?

Remember, the question is optional

Word has always been my “go to” software...

I’ve stuck with it through all its versions:

Good, bad, bugs and all....

And let me tell you...

One version had lots of bugs.

Last year...

When I went to the Writer’s Digest conference in NYC...

I took a mini class in Word and—WOW!

There were so many features I didn't even know existed.

Obviously, teaching myself isn’t the best way for me to learn...

Because I’m impatient, get frustrated easily, and give up often.

One time I tried Scrivener and thought it had great options...

But I kept going back to Word because it was familiar...

But more, Word is the standard when submitting...

And I don’t want to write in one software program...

And then have to copy and paste into another format...

I have enough going on in my head when I write...

I don’t want to clutter it figuring out how to do that.

(Yes...I'm a wuss)

Lastly...

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY to all!

And may all your BBQ dream cuisines  come true!

Always,
Em Musing

The awesome co-hosts for the April 3 posting of the IWSG are Janet Alcorn, T. Powell Coltrin, Natalie Aguirre, and Pat Garcia!

April 3 question - How long have you been blogging? (Or on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram?) What do you like about it and how has it changed

Waaay back in 2009

I started my blog, Em-Musing

I chose that name for two reasons...

1)  the ‘Em’ part is ‘me’ backward...

(which is how I often feel)

2) because it’s so close to sounding like ‘I’m Musing’.

I began writing my posts because I had many writings

But had no place to put them.

I didn’t belong to any online writing groups at the time...

So I didn’t expect to get any followers...

(Not true…I really, really wanted some)

It just wanted to put my writings out ‘there’ ...

And not stay stuck in my laptop.

A few years later...

I stumbled upon the Insecure Writer’s Support Group...

Founded by the one and only Alex J. Cavanaugh.

I joined...

And wow! My blog got some followers. YAY!

My blog post through the years have dwindled..

Because I’ve been putting my energies towards writing novels

But I still love being on IWSG especially for the monthly blog...

And have appreciated the support and comments throughout the years.

And what about your blog journey?

Always,

Em-Musing

SIZE MATTERS

Downsizing can often  be a good thing...

But downsizing the size of words?

Either on paper or the Internet?

What’s the point?

Or should I say - what's the point size.

Seems this is a new trend...

More and more websites and printed pieces that I see...

(or cannot see well)

Are doing this...

And not only are the words smaller, but thinner.

Why?

I feel like I'm being given an eye examination I didn't ask for.

Do they think tiny skinny words...

Make them more creative?

Prove they have better eyesight?

Or...

It's a  conspiracy...

By BIG EYE companies...

To make people run eye doctors screaming. Help! I'm losing may eyesight!! I need glasses!

Or...

Make people keep buying more "readers"?

Or...

Those in the advertising world...

Have a not-so-funny sense of humor?

But to prove I am a trendy kinda girl...

Here's my new business card:

So?

What are your thoughts?

if you cn even read this...

 Always,

Em-Musing

OH MY PANTIES! Yet another panty story

I’ve been dealing with a very annoying little brat lately.

Everyday I have to fight, cajole, or
beg her to do her work. I'd like to
punish her but:
Will she get more obstinate?
More Whiny?
More infuriating?

Here's a sample of one of our exchanges:

Little Girl Me:    I HATE IT!!!!!!!

Big Girl Me:        I know you don’t like social media but
                          you  have to do it.

Little Girl Me:   WHY?

Big Girl Me:       Other authors do it.

Little Girl Me:   Who cares?

Big Girl Me:       I care. And it works. To get reviews, sell
                         my book.

Little Girl Me:   So why you don’t just get an agent?

Big Girl Me:        I tried. Didn’t happen. Time to self-pub.

Little Girl Me:    So why do I have to suffer?

Big Girl Me:        We’re in this together, remember?

Little Girl Me:    I signed up only for the fun stuff—
writing. Not the dumb boring stuff.

Big Girl Me:       Well it’s time to put your big girl panties
on and just do it. . .otherwise. . .

Little Girl Me:   Otherwise what?

Big Girl Me:       Otherwise I won’t let you have your
                         favorite ice cream-mint chocolate chip.

Little Girl Me:   I thought you were trying to lose weight?

Big Girl Me:       What? Are you my conscience now?

Little Girl Me:   Fine! I’ll do it. But I want 4 scoops!

Big Girl Me:       Deal!

So?

Do you struggle with doing all that must be done to be

self-published?

Always,

Em-Musing

FRAME OF MIND

-->
This post is part o the monthly Insecure Writers Support Group monthly blog hop founded by Alex J. Cavanaugh. It happens the first Wednesday of each month.

December 4th question: Let's play a game. Imagine! Role-play! How would you describe your future writer self, your life, and what it looks and feels like if you were living the dream? Or if you are already there, what does it look and feel like? Tell the rest of us. What would you change or improve?

Rewind twenty years ago...

I imagined living by the Caribbean...

It's 4:30 in the morning...

I am writing  and drinking a cup of my favorite brew.

(Havana blend)

It'd continue the day with more writing and going to the beach...
Eating fantastic meals with friends...
And then my day would end up with wonderful...
Well, That's too private to share. **wink wink**
Anyhoo...
It's twenty years later...
And I'm in Mexico...
On the Caribbean coast...

And writing at 4:30 a.m. most days.
All the other elements of my fantasy do happen...
Just not every day...
But it's OK...
I'm here!
Though I didn't plan how I'd get here...
It just sort of happened...
Well...
I guess falling in love with a Mexican man helped me get here.
The only thing I'd change is...
Realizing earlier that I wanted to make writing a career.
How about you?
Are you living your dream yet?
Do tell.

Always,
Em-Musing
