ARTIC BLAST

This post is part of the monthly blog hop/therapy session known as the Insecure Writers Support Group, founded by the one and only, Alex J. Cavanaugh

September 4th question:  If you could pick one place in the  world to sit and writer your next story, where would it be and why?

Me?
Kiruna, Lapland Sweden...
90 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
Yup!
Me who loves & lives in the tropics of Mexico...
Me who craves the  sun year round...
Me who thrives in the heat and the humidity...
Yes, me would love to go there...
Where the herring swim and the reindeer  roam ...
But not because I’m mostly Swedish...
And not for the amazing Aurora Borealis...
But because of the Polar Nights...
Those three months of 24/7 total darkness.
Ya see, I write my best in darkness...
So I would definitely welcome...
All-dayer & all-nighter writing days.
I'd have maid service and fresh sheets daily...
Room service for anything, and of course coffee...
Factoid: Sweden is in the top 3 of the world's coffee consumers
There'd be no distractions to want to go outside...
Because it’d be frickin’ freezing!
But if I did...
I could go cross-country skiing...
And reindeer or dog-sledding...
And of course see the awesome Aurora Borealis.

And you?
Where’s your perfect writing spot?

Always,
Em-Musing

GOT MY MO JOE RISING

4:30 a.m.
OMG!
My first cuppa in 5 months!
And, oh, my brain is all a’flutter
Neurons are revving up to fire
New brain wrinkles are waiting to fold
My taste buds are salivating
                        with anticipation!

And my mood? Elevating already.
But I wondered
Is all this in my imagination?
Or real?
So I Googled
And ah hah!
It seems coffee
a.k.a Joe, mocha, Java, cafe noir, jamocha
Actually improves various aspects of brain function
Including memory, mood, vigilance, energy levels,
Reaction times and general cognitive function.
Just thinking about coffee.
I’m feeling smarter and happier already
And my creative juices are flowing!
So into the kitchen I went
To fire up my coffee pot
When suddenly
Patti LaBelle’s song, LadyMarmalade
Perked up in my head
With a few altered lyrics of course:
Hello, hey Joe
Wanna give it a go?
Itchi Gitchy Ya Ya Da Da
Itchi Gitchy Ya Ya I do, I do
Mocha, Java, Café noir
This ole lady's gonna brew you.
And what about you?
Any food or beverage get you this fired up?

Always,

Em-Musing

COFFEE HOUSE BLUES

In a few days
I will be going on stem cell therapy.
Here in Mexico.
I have 2 cervical discs
And 2 lumbar discs
Suffering from stenosis
a.k.a. pinched nerve.
The stem cells are given by injection.
And, as the doctor said
The stem cells will find what needs fixing.
Well, she didn’t use those terms
But you get the idea.
The doctor also said
“There are two things you can’t drink:
Coffee and citrus juices.”
No biggie, right?
Right.
No wait!
YES, BIGGIE!
Giving up citrus is one thing…
But Coffee????
WAA WAA WAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
If you’re not a coffee drinker.
Than you perhaps you don’t understand…
Besides the caffeine withdrawal
There’s the whole ritual of coffee
Coffee is how I start my writing day.
And I’m not alone
See for yourself.
Some writer's thoughts on coffee.

"Coffee is a lot more than just a drink; it's something happening. Not as in hip, but like an event, a place to be, but not like a location, but like somewhere within yourself. It gives you time, but not actual hours or minutes, but a chance to be, like be yourself, and have a second cup" -
Gertrude Stein

As soon as coffee is in your stomach, there is a general commotion, ideas begin to move, smiles arise, the paper is covered. Coffee is your ally and writing ceases to be a struggle."
Balzac

"It was a pleasant cafe, warm and clean and friendly, and I hung up my old water-proof on the coat rack to dry and put my worn and weathered felt hat on the rack above the bench and orderd a cafe au lait. The waiter brought it and I took out a notbeook from the pocket of the coat and a pencil and started to write.
Ernest Hamingway.

"It is inhumane, in my opionion, to force people who have a genuine medical need for coffee to wait inline behind people who apparently view it as some kind of recreational activity. I bet this kind of thing does not happen to heroin addicts. I bet then when seriousl heroin addicts go to purchase their heroin, they do not tolerate waiting in line while some dilettante in front of them orders a hazelnut smack-a-cino with cinnamon sprinkles."
Dave Barry

So?
What about you?
Are you a coffee fiend/fanatic/fan/addict?
What's your brew?
Or
Do you prefer another beverage when writing?

Always,

Em-Musing
